Happy Dussehra 2023! The nine-day Navratri festival comes to a close on Vijayadashami, or the tenth day. The Hindu calendar considers Vijayadashami to be a celebration of Lord Ram’s triumph over the evil monarch Ravana. To symbolize the triumph of good over evil, they burn enormous effigies of the demon king Ravana across the nation. This year, on Tuesday, October 24, we shall celebrate Dussehra.

The Story Of Dussehra Shree Ram and Ravana

The Ramayana, an ancient Indian epic, contains a famous narrative of Ram and Ravana. This epic tells the story of Lord Rama, a manifestation of the divinity Vishnu, and his travels, including his conflict with the evil king Ravana. The short version of their tale is as follows:
1. Rama’s Exile

Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, is unjustly banished from his throne by his stepmother Kaikeyi at the start of the narrative. Rama begins a 14-year exile in the wilderness with Sita, his wife, and their devoted brother Lakshmana.

2. Sita’s abduction:

The demon king Ravana decides to kidnap Sita after learning of her beauty while he is exiled. He impersonates a sage and deceives Sita into leaving the boundary that Lakshmana has placed to keep her safe. Then Sita is abducted by Ravana and brought to his Lankan realm.

3. Rama’s QuestΒ 

Rama gathers an army of monkeys, bears, and other animals to rescue his beloved wife. He also asks the monkey god Hanuman for assistance. With the use of his exceptional abilities, Hanuman locates Sita in Lanka.

4. The Battel:

The army of demons led by Ravana engages Rama’s armies in a fierce battle. Both sides of the conflict display extraordinary strength and bravery. Finally, Rama’s celestial bow, which Lord Shiva gave to him,

5. Ravana’s Death:

 In the decisive fight, Rama kills Ravana by inserting a divine arrow into his breast. By killing the evil monarch, Rama symbolizes the victory of good over evil. After saving Sita, they head back to Ayodhya.

6. Return to Ayodhya:

When they arrive back in Ayodhya, Lord Rama is anointed as the city’s legitimate king, to the delight of the people. Rama’s rule is remembered as a time of fairness and prosperity.

Ram and Ravana’s tale is not simply one of bravery, but it also depicts the ongoing conflict between good and evil. To remember the triumph of good over evil, it is celebrated during the Dussehra celebration when effigies of Ravana are burned as a sign of victory.
