About Jawaharlal Nehru

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India (1947–1964), was born in Allahabad, India, on November 14, 1889, and passed away in New Delhi on May 27, 1964. He founded parliamentary governance and gained notoriety for his neutralist foreign policy positions. In the 1930s and 1940s, he was also a key figure in the Indian independence struggle.

He served as India’s first prime minister after independence (1947–1964). He made a significant contribution to India’s growth and is regarded as the country’s architect. On May 27, 1964, he passed away.

Established in 1954, the United Nations Universal Children’s Day is observed on November 20th of each year with the goals of fostering global unity, raising children’s consciousness, and enhancing their welfare.

November 20th holds significance as it marks the day that the United Nations General Assembly approved the Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 1959. Additionally, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the UN General Assembly on this date in 1989.

Since 1990, the date of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the convention on children’s rights as well as the declaration on children’s rights have been commemorated on Universal Children’s Day.
