The third-biggest city in the state is among Tamil Nadu’s most developed cities. In the past, Coimbatore predated the 2nd or 3rd century AD and was governed by the early Cholas. In 1937, G. D. Naidu created the first domestic motor in India. In the city, the nation’s first-ever domestically produced diesel automobile engine was produced in 1972. The city is also a significant hub for minor auto parts manufacturers that serve the automotive sector, including personal, business, and agricultural vehicles.
Coimbatore’s is known as “The Pump City” since it provides about half of India’s motor and pump needs.
