For the first time, more than one candidate won the state’s assembly elections when three women were elected as Mizoram MLAs on Monday, according to HC Vanlalruata.
Lalrinpuii and Baryl Vanneihsangi belong to the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which emerged triumphant, while Pravo Chakma is associated with the departing Mizo National Front (MNF). Pravo from West Tuipui, Vanneihsangi from Aizawl South-3, and Lalrinpuii from Lunglei East emerged victorious.
L Thanmawii of the People’s Conference was the first woman to be elected to the legislature when Mizoram was made a Union territory in 1972 and had a legislature with thirty members.
