The 1 theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was taken from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The 1 gala and exhibit showcased the broad influence of Black creativity on worldwide fashion. The dress code for the evening was “Tailored for You,” inviting guests to show their individual style in celebration of the theme.
