Salangpur Hanuman Spiritual Powerhouse of Gujarat

The Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Temple in Salangpur is one of the most prominent shrines in the Swaminarayan Sampraday. Unlike other temples of the sect, this is the only one where Lord Hanuman is the primary deity of worship. Known as the “Crusher of Sorrows,” the temple is a beacon of hope for millions seeking relief from hardships and negative energies.

Historic Installation

The temple was founded by Sadguru Gopalanand Swami in 1848 (V.S. 1905). It is said that when he installed the idol, he touched it with a silver-plated rod, and the idol came alive and moved—a miracle that defined the temple’s healing reputation.

The 54ft Majesty

Unveiled in April 2023, the “King of Salangpur” statue is a 54-foot bronze marvel. Made of Panchdhatu (five metals) and weighing 30,000 kg, it stands as the tallest Hanuman statue in Gujarat and can be seen from 7 km away.

Key Topics & Significance

  • The Unique Idol: Hanumanji is depicted as a stout figure with a handlebar mustache, crushing a female demon (representing the feminine form of Shani Dev) under his foot, symbolising his power over planetary afflictions.
  • Renovations: In 1899, Shastriji Maharaj (founder of BAPS) managed the temple and oversaw major expansions, including the construction of the adjacent bungalow.
  • Healing Rituals: Every Tuesday and Saturday, special rituals are held for those affected by mental illnesses or spiritual disturbances. Devotees are often blessed with the same silver-plated rod used during the original installation.
  • Architecture: The temple is built in traditional Hindu style with intricate stone carvings and a vast courtyard that can accommodate thousands of pilgrims.
