Five Indians are listed on the Business magazine Forbes’ annual list of the World’s Most Powerful Women for 2023. These women have not only broken through glass ceilings but also made a name for themselves on the international scene, demonstrating the varied and powerful voices coming out of India. Forbes used four metrics—money, media, impact, and spheres of influence—to calculate the ranking.

Forbes 2023 List
1. Nirmala Sitharaman (32 Ranked)
Nirmala Sitharaman ranked 32, has appeared on the list for the fifth consecutive year. The 64-year-old BJP politician had previously ranked(36 in 2022), (37 in 2021), (41 in 2020), and (34 in 2019). This is her greatest position to date.
Forbes noted in the feature that Sitharman is the first full-time female finance minister of India and that before entering politics, she held positions at the BBC World Service and the Agricultural Engineers Association in the United Kingdom.
2. Roshni Nadar Malhotra (60 Ranked)
Nadar Malhotra, 42, is a philanthropist and millionaire from India. Being the first Indian woman to head a listed IT business, she is the chairperson of HCL Technologies. According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List (2019), she is acknowledged as the richest woman in India. She is the sole child of HCL founder Shiv Nadar. Forbes has named Ms. Malhotra as one of the most influential women in the world regularly; she was placed 54th in 2019, 55th in 2020, and 60th in 2023.
3. Soma Mondal (70 Ranked)
Since January 2021, Soma Mondal, 60, has been the first woman to serve as Chairperson of the Steel Authority of India, creating history. She was raised in Bhubaneswar and earned her electrical engineering degree in 1984. She began her career in the metal sector at NALCO and progressed to become Director (Commercial) before joining SAIL in 2017. She has over 35 years of expertise in the field. Among Ms. Mondal’s professional achievements are her roles as SAIL’s first female chairman and functional director. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she is the Chairperson of SCOPE and was named the ETPrime Women Leadership Awards’ “CEO of the Year” in 2023. Her position on the list is 70th.
4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Ranked 76)
Mazumdar-Shaw, a well-known Indian millionaire entrepreneur, is seventy years old. In Bangalore, India, she established and oversaw Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is one of the wealthiest self-made women in India, according to Forbes. Founded in 1978, Biocon is a biopharmaceutical company that has achieved extraordinary success thanks to its founder. Located in Malaysia’s Johor region, the company contains Asia’s largest insulin facility.
5. Falguni Nayar (Ranked 88)
The CEO and founder of the beauty and lifestyle retail business Nykaa is Falguni Sanjay Nayar. Originally, it was called FSN E-Commerce Ventures, an abbreviation for her name. According to Forbes, Falguni Nayar is believed to be worth $2.3 billion. Presently, Nykaa offers more than 4,500 brands for sale online in addition to more than 100 physical locations throughout India.
