Near ultraviolet full-disk photos of the Sun have been obtained by the L1 probe. From the Sun, the spacecraft is approximately 148.5 million kilometers (925,000 miles) away. It is not going to approach or land on the Sun. India’s first space solar observatory, the L1 spacecraft, is home to the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) instrument, which has been successfully recorded.

Indian space agency ISRO has shared the first images of Aditya-L1

ISRO released two images captured on September 4th by a camera installed on the Aditya-L1 early on Thursday morning.

In one of the pictures, the Moon and the Earth are captured in a single frame; the Moon seems like a little dot in the distance, while the Earth looks enormous. Two of the seven scientific instruments carried by the solar mission are visible in the second photo, which is a “selfie”.

Aditya-L1 Mission Trajectory

  • Between the Earth and the Sun, at Lagrange point 1 (L1), the L1 spacecraft will circle in a halo.
  • About 1.5 million kilometers separate the L1 point from Earth.
  • The spacecraft will remain 1.5 million kilometers, or around 1% of Earth’s distance from the Sun, from Earth.
  • It is anticipated that the trip to L1 will take four months.

SUIT Captured the historic picture

These historic photos were taken in the 200-400 nm wavelength region by the SUIT instrument, offering a unique view of the Sun’s surface and outer layer. Scientists can examine sunspots, plages, and quiet Sun regions in detail thanks to these near-ultraviolet images, which also enable a thorough study of solar dynamics.

The photographs produced by SUIT observations are not only quite beautiful to look at, but they are also very important scientifically. They provide light on the intricate characteristics of the Sun by allowing researchers to examine the dynamic coupling of the magnetic solar atmosphere.
