National Workers Day
(National Labour Day )is a day to honor the achievements that laborers have made to society and to promote social fairness and workers’ rights. It serves as a reminder of the continuous fight for ethical labor standards and the significance of worker solidarity worldwide.
History For National Workers Day
A labor union movement in the United States throughout the 1800s is where Labor Day originated. About two lakh workers demanded an eight-hour workday and called for a statewide strike on May 1, 1886. Later, the demonstration in Chicago turned violent, sparking the Haymarket Affair.
Following the bombing of a peaceful gathering in Chicago’s Haymarket Square, the Haymarket Riot was avoided. Many police officers and protestors had died in the encounter.
To honor the Haymarket event, the International Socialist Conference declared May 1st, 1889, to be Workers’ Day. Then, on May 1, 1890, the day was observed for the first time.
Over 80 countries worldwide commemorate Labor Day these days, including India. India observed May Day for the first time in 1923. The Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan observed it in Chennai. On May 1, people also celebrate Gujarat Day and Maharashtra Day.
