On December 4, the Indian Navy this day as a way of remembering “Operation Trident,” which was the navy’s 1971 attack on Karachi Harbour.
The action began in retaliation for Pakistan’s preemptive bombing against the Indian airfield, known as Operation Chengiz Khan. The navy replied through “Operation Trident” and later launched “Operation Cactus” and “Python”.
The day is also observed in remembrance of the gallant warriors who died in the conflict of 1971.
