Kapila Theertham is a sacred stream and Shaivite temple in Tirupati, at the base of the Tirumala Hills. It has a lot of spiritual and cultural meaning for the worshippers who come to this holy area. In Tirupati, there are a lot of temples that worship Vaishnavite gods. This one is different because it is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Kapileswara. It is thought that Sage Kapila Muni set it up himself.
Kapila Theertham Architecture
Kapila Theertham’s temple complex is a great example of Dravidian architecture, a common style used in building temples in South India.
It is carved into the steep face of the Seshachalam Hills, part of the Eastern Ghats, which makes it even more special. The temple is at the opening to a natural cave in the mountains. Water from the hills flows into a sacred tank in the temple called the theertham.
Visitors are greeted by a grand stone figure of Nandi, the holy bull and Lord Shiva’s ride, when they walk in.
As is common in South Indian temple complexes, the temple grounds have a main shrine for Kapileswara Swamy (Shiva) and several smaller ones for other gods, like Kamakshi Devi, Vinayaka (Ganesha), Subramanya, Agasthesswara, and Rukmini-Satyabhama with Krishna.
Architectural features inside the temple show elements from both the Vijayanagara and Chola periods. The temple has inner doors (called “antaralas”), front halls (“mukhamandapas”), and open, pillared porches (“verandahs”).

Distance From Bengalore
Tirupati is a well-liked place for people to go on a pilgrimage to, especially when coming from Bangalore (Bengaluru). It is about 247–256 km from Bangalore to Tirupati by road, based on which route you take. It takes about 4 to 6 hours to get there by road or bus. Kapila Theertham is easy to get to when you get to the city of Tirupati. It is only a few kilometers from the central bus stand and the train station.
