Homebound is More Than Just Another Drama of 2025

Homebound : An Indian drama movie called Homebound was written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. A lot of people, like Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, work together on it under the banner of Dharma Productions. Martin Scorsese is even involved; he is the executive producer.
The movie is based on Basharat Peer’s (2020) article in the New York Times called A Friendship, a Pandemic, and a Death Beside the Highway. It tells the true story of two young friends who are migrants who are caught in the COVID-19 lockdown and the terrible things that happen to them as they try to get home.

Homebound Story and plot

The story is about two childhood friends from North India who live in a small town. They want to be police officers because they think that job will give them honor and respect, which they feel they haven’t had.
The trip they are on to reach that goal gets harder as the movie goes on. Things like life’s stresses, unfair social conditions, lack of money, and biases all put their dreams and friendship at risk.

Characters and Cast

• One of the two friends, Ishaan Khatter, is in the lead cast of Homebound. He gives his part sensitivity and depth.
• Vishal Jethwa is the other friend. He has the same dream but also has problems with his caste, faith, and sense of who he is. He and Ishaan have both been praised for how real their acts seem.
• Sudha, played by Janhvi Kapoor, is another important character. Her interactions with the two friends give the story more depth and feeling than just their shared goal.
• Reem Shaikh is also in the group.

Production

• The movie was mostly shot in and around Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 2024 to catch the feel of a real North Indian village or town.
• Some of the backstory was made up by Ghaywan so that the characters could have full lives and realistic arcs, but the story stayed true to the spirit of what really happened.
• It was first shown at the Un Certain Regard part of the Cannes Film Festival in 2025 (May 21, 2025). It will also be shown in theaters in India on September 26, 2025.

• The music was written by Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar.
• Nitin Baid is the director, and Pratik Shah was in charge of filming.
• It’s about 122 minutes long.
