New Update Sheetal Devi Receives Arjuna Award from President

President Droupadi Murmu presented Para-archer Sheetal Devi with the Arjuna Award on January 9, 2024. Sheetal, 16, is the first para-archery champion from outside the world. She is a quadriplegic. Sheetal created history at the Hangzhou Para Asian Games 2023 by taking home two gold medals and a silver medal.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the national sports awards to India’s top-performing athletes in a regal ceremony on Tuesday at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, evoking a festive atmosphere among the 26 athletes and para-athletes.

Due to a rare illness called phocomelia, para archer Sheetal Devi, who took two gold medals from the Asian Games in Hangzhou, is the first para archer outside the country to compete without upper limbs.
