Maharaj’s Family and Early Life

In 1630, Shivaji Maharaj was born at Maharashtra’s Shivneri Fort. In the Bijapur Sultanate, his father, Shahaji Bhosale, was a valiant general. Jijabai, his mother, was essential in forming his personality and introducing him to Hindu principles. He received administrative and military training from his mentor, Dadoji Kondadev.

History of Shivaji Maharaj’s Wars and Conquests

In order to create Swarajya and grow his dominion, Shivaji Maharaj engaged in several conflicts. He defeated more formidable foes by employing guerilla warfare techniques.

  • Afzal Khan was defeated at the Battle of Pratapgad (1659), which increased his authority in Maharashtra.
  • He demonstrated his strategic prowess during the Siege of Panhala (1660) against the Adil Shahi Sultanate.
  • The goal of the Battle of Surat (1664) was to undermine the Mughal economy by raiding Surat.
  • fought against the Mughals at the Battle of Purandar (1665), but afterwards signed the Treaty of Purandar with Mirza Raja Jai Singh.
  • Outwitting Aurangzeb, they managed to flee Agra (1666) and made their way back to Maharashtra.
  • At the Raigad coronation (1674), he proclaimed himself Chhatrapati and founded the Maratha Empire.

Shivaji Maharaj is renowned for his administration, leadership, and courage. He guaranteed justice for all of his citizens and instituted progressive policies. His military tactics, forts, and navy served as an inspiration to later Indian fighters. Millions of people are still motivated by his Hindavi Swarajya beliefs today.
