History Bhavanarayana Temple
The name “Bhavanarayana” signifies “the God who grants salvation to those who think of him,” highlighting the significance of the temple as a place of spiritual solace and liberation. Trilinga Kshoni Vaikuntha is the name given to the temple complex, which houses three deities, adding to its significance.
There is a beautiful legend regarding Sage Kashyapa and his two wives, Vinata and Kadru. Through a stroke of fate, Kadru cursed her serpent children to die in a snake sacrifice. But one of Kadru’s dedicated sons, Ananta, performed a stern penance to Lord Vishnu with the hope of reversing their destiny.
Touched by his devotion, Lord Vishnu bestowed a special boon on Ananta such that the serpent clan would live on. He announced that the hallowed place of Ananta’s austerities would be known as Sarpapura, and that Himself and His loving consort Lakshmi would be installed in it by Sage Narada.
This deep connection to Ananta is why the temple is affectionately known as Sarpavaram Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple.
