History of Golconda Fort

In the 12th century, under the Kakatiya dynasty, Golconda Fort was first constructed as a mud fort. The Bahmani Sultans then strengthened and enlarged it, and in the 16th century, the Qutb Shahi dynasty took control of it.

By erecting palaces, fortifying its fortifications, and establishing Golconda as the center of the world’s greatest diamond commerce, the Qutb Shahis turned the city into a prosperous metropolis. But after a fierce eight-month war, the fort was besieged and taken by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1687.

Who Built Fort?

Golconda Fort was first constructed as a modest building in the 12th century by the Kakatiya monarchs of Warangal. Later, in 1518, Sultan Quli Qutb-ul-Mulk, the founder of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, renovated it and enlarged it into a huge defensive castle. The splendor of Golconda peaked during the Qutb Shahis.
