The History Behind Holi

Hindu mythology has a long history with Holi. The story of Prahlad and Holika is among the most well-known legends. Despite his desire for universal devotion, King Hiranyakashipu’s son, Prahlad, was a follower of Lord Vishnu, according to folklore. Holika, Hiranyakashipu’s sister, who possessed the boon that fire could not hurt her, sat in a fire with Prahlad on her lap as a kind of punishment. But thanks to supernatural intervention, Prahlad was unharmed while Holika burned. This occasion, known as Holika Dahan, represents the triumph of good over evil.

The story of Krishna & Radha is another well-known mythology. It is thought that Radha’s pale skin caused Krishna, who had a dark complexion, to worry. The custom of playing with colors began when his mother jokingly suggested that he paint Radha’s face.
