Another name for Dipawali is the “Festival of Lights,”  Diwali represents the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Bright decorations, the lighting of lamps (diyas), brilliant rangoli designs, and a spirit of unity all signify this festive occasion. Families get together for special meals, gift-giving, and participation in religious and cultural customs.

Diwali - The Festival Of Light

On the day of Diwali, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana return to Ayodhya following a 14-year exile. Rama, his brother Laxmana, and his wife Sita, who were banished by their father King Dasharatha, encounter many difficulties while passing through the woodlands. Sita is abducted by the formidable demon king Ravana when she is in exile.

When is the Diwali festival?

Because Diwali is observed on a lunisolar Hindu calendar, the dates vary every year. Typically, the celebration takes place around the middle of October and November.

November 9th, Friday, Dhanteras Sunday, November 12, 2023: Narak Chaturdashi, Laxmi Pujan, and Dipawali. Tuesday, November 14, 2023: Vikram Samvat New Year, Balipratipada, Govardhan Puja. Bhai Dooj on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

PM Modi Ji Celebrate Dipawali with Soldiers

In keeping with his custom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has traveled to Lepcha in Himachal Pradesh, which is close to the Chinese border, to spend Diwali this year with soldiers.

On X, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Reached Lepcha in Himachal Pradesh to celebrate Diwali with our brave security forces.” He arrived at the isolated village on Sunday morning.

Earlier in the day Modi ji Wished “Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali! May this special festival bring joy, prosperity and wonderful health to everyone’s lives,” he said.

Ayodhya lights up with 22 lakh diyas

On the eve of Dipawali on Saturday, over 22 lakh diyas were lit on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya during the seventh Deepotsav, creating a new Guinness World record for the most lamps burned concurrently in one location.
