Introduction

Vikram-Lander

India was the first nation to make a successful landing close to the Moon’s south pole.

The Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram-Lander module has successfully touched down on the Moon’s south pole, making India the first nation in the world to achieve this feat. India is also the fourth nation, after the United States, China, and Russia have landed on the Moon. Emotions ran high at ISRO‘s Bengaluru mission control on the historic moment. Get live Updates

Euphoric celebrations happened at the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), Bengaluru, precisely at 6.03 p.m. when the lander made contact with the lunar surface. The Lander then successfully deployed the Rover, which will conduct in-situ chemical analyses of the lunar surface as it is traveling. With a mission length of one lunar day (14 days on Earth), the Lander and Rover include scientific payloads to conduct lunar surface investigations.

Congratulating the team of scientists at ISRO, PM Modi said, “India’s successful moon mission is not India’s alone…Our approach of one earth, one family one future is resonating across the globe…Moon’s mission is based on the same human-centric approach. So, this success belongs to all of humanity.”

“This historic achievement marks a significant milestone in India’s journey of space exploration. As Chandrayaan-3 makes its lunar landing, the Pragyan rover’s wheels will etch the nation’s pride – the Lion Capital, representing Ashoka’s legacy, and the emblem of ISRO, a beacon of scientific progress.
The symbolism runs deep, signifying not only technological prowess but also India’s rich historical heritage. The Sarnath Lion Capital, a symbol of dharma and unity, will now grace the Moon, a testament to India’s enduring values. The Lion Capital is accompanied by the ISRO logo, which stands for creativity and tenacity and affirms India’s expertise in space research.
