Kanadikavu Temple : The Kanadikavu Shree Vishnumaya Kuttichathan Swamy Temple is in Peringottukara, Kerala, not far from Thrissur. It is a beautiful example of faith, national identity, and harmonious architecture. It’s only been around for about 35 years now, but its roots go deep into myths and local tradition, making it a sacred place for believers.

Kanadikavu Temple beginning and a living story
Traditional stories say that a devoted follower did hard penance in the Himalayas with the help of wise teachers. There, the god Vishnumaya, who is also known as Kuttichathan, showed up and walked with the follower back to Peringottukara. There, he was ordained and placed, which is how the Kanadikavu Temple came to be.
The spiritual heart of the temple is still defined by this story, which is deeply connected to the Ezhava people, who typically worship Vishnumaya.
Brahmashree Vishnubharatheeya Swami is the head priest now. He is a respected spiritual leader who leads temple practices and worship according to ancient traditions.

Celebrations: The Heartbeat of Devotion
Kanadikavu’s soul is most clear during its lively celebrations. The devotion, art, music, and rituals at these events come together to make a deep spiritual experience.
Mahotsavam for Thiravellattu :
This event takes place in Makaram, which is usually between January and February. It honors the temple’s vision and the dedication of Vishnumaya. A lot of people come together to watch and take part in special rites, pujas, and traditional shows.
Ritual of Roopakalam :
Making Roopakalam, which are detailed, colorful drawings of the god (and sometimes his friend, Karimkutty) on the ground, is a unique and interesting tradition that is done during Thiravellattu. A priest does puja, dances around the design to traditional music, and then prays over the powdered art. Finally, coconut leaves are used in a ceremony to erase the art. The powder is then given to the devotees as a lucky gift.
