The Legend and History of Jakhu Temple
The epic Ramayana had a significant influence on Jakhu Temple’s history. It is said that Lord Hanuman slept at Jakhu Hill as he was flying to retrieve the Sanjeevani plant to rescue Lakshman. A 108-foot-tall statue of Hanuman, which can be seen from all around Shimla, now sits where the temple was constructed.
The temple was built to commemorate Hanuman’s heavenly presence because, according to local mythology, the deity’s footsteps remained after he went. With an estimated age of almost a century, the temple is a noteworthy historical and religious site.
