Hanuman's Marriage
The Untold Story of Hanuman Ji’s Marriage | Why He Remains a Brahmachari

The Mystery of Lord Hanuman’s Marriage: Why the Eternal Brahmachari is Still Worshiped as a Celibate

We all know Hanuman Ji as the ultimate devotee of Lord Rama and a lifelong celibate (Bal Brahmachari). But did you know that in some scriptures, specifically the Parasara Samhita, there is a mention of Hanuman Ji’s marriage?[cite: 1] It sounds surprising, right? Let’s dive into this beautiful story that is as much about learning as it is about devotion.

The Story Behind the Marriage

Lord Hanuman was a brilliant student of Surya Dev (the Sun God).[cite: 1] He mastered nine divine grammars (Nava Vyakarana) with incredible speed.[cite: 1] However, to learn the final parts of these scriptures, one had to be a “Grihastha” or a married man.[cite: 1] As an ascetic, Hanuman Ji could not technically receive those final lessons.[cite: 1]

To solve this dilemma without breaking Hanuman’s spiritual path, Surya Dev created a daughter named Suvarchala from his own rays of light.[cite: 1] He explained that marrying her would fulfill the technicality of the scriptures, allowing Hanuman to become a complete scholar.[cite: 1]

Why is He Still a Brahmachari?

Even though Hanuman Ji married Suvarchala, he is still called a Bal Brahmachari.[cite: 1] The reason is simple and divine:

  • Purpose of Knowledge: The marriage was purely “technical,” meant only to allow Hanuman to complete his education.[cite: 1]
  • Nature of Suvarchala: Suvarchala was a divine manifestation of the Sun’s brilliance and returned to meditation (Tapasya) immediately after the wedding.[cite: 1]
  • Ascetic Lifestyle: Hanuman Ji never led a worldly family life and remained dedicated to his path of service to Lord Rama.[cite: 1]

Where is the Temple?

If you’re wondering where you can see Hanuman Ji in this form, there is a rare temple dedicated to this story. In Yeldurthy (Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh), there is a temple where Hanuman Ji is worshipped alongside his consort, Suvarchala Devi.[cite: 1]
